Scotland Expedition 2025 - Day 4
This last day of this expedition felt strange. The work was completed and I felt a bit without purpose. That’s why it took me a while to write to you. Yet, some interesting things happened to me on a more personal level.

Scotland Expedition 2025 - Day 3
I immediately see animals being hoarded together towards the circle. ‘Why?’, I wonder. Not to kill and simply eat them just like that. To honour them?
The Standing Stones of Stenness are clearly different than the ones in the Ring of Brodgar. The ring is much smaller with only 11 original stones of which 4 are still standing. There used to be a henge (a gutter and higher bank in a circle), but it has disappeared after centuries of agriculture.

Scotland Expedition 2025 - Day 2
The Ring of Brodgar, with 36 stones where once maybe 60 stood, said the sign. I felt welcome to this place. Almost an air of eagerness for my arrival was noticeable.

Scotland Expedition 2025 - Day 1
Today I arrived at the northern coast and went down to the beach. I was impressed by everything; the salty smell of the sea, the powerful wind blowing me backwards, the sound of the waves bashing against the black cliff and the deep feeling of being ‘there’. After what seemed such a long time, I have arrived at the northern tip of Scotland overlooking the water that bridges the Orkney Isles with the mainland.
